Promoting Windows alternatives
0I’m always on the lookout to promote either Linux or Mac OS X to people in my direct environment. For a lot of those people I’m often someone to go to for computer-related advice or even tech-support. During such sessions I often find myself in discussions about Windows in general and which OS I use myself on a daily basis. I recently took a gamble to install Linux on the computers of two people who only know Windows and are not the kind that likes experimenting with software to make sure they’re using the best available. My experiences with these installs made me want to write down some experiences, observations and opinions. In general I feel that it’s unfair that most people don’t even know that a computer can run with something other than Windows. The main question I’d like to discuss is: “Why is it so hard for people to part from Windows and how can this ever change?”. (more…)
